• Which Sewing Machine is best?

I thought I would introduce you to Kit, although he is lovely and naughty, (well he is a kitten) I am not blogging about him. My friend has a condition called dyspraxia which affects the physical co-ordination and we were discussing sewing machines, she said that if she had bought a larger sewing machine, the bottom picture of a Jenome 4400 when we were first in lockdown she didn’t think she would be able to cope with the motor and pedal being so fast, for her the smaller sewing machine was ideal as it built up her confidence. It got me thinking about my friends condition, (when I was working…

  • Valentines Heart Pin After The Session

This is my workshop space, top picture is before the workshop and the picture below is during the workshop, I got to go to my happy place, which was sewing embroidery stitches into the centre of the Valentine heart pin to create a unique and creative piece. Anna who attended the workshop said she was quite happy having a private session as she had all the attention and she was happy that she could finish her heart pin within the two hour session.

  • Valentines Heart Pin

This is a piece of bondaweb that will be posted today for the packs to the workshop for Valentines Heart Pin, what I wanted to share with you was my printer wasn’t playing ball today. My frustration levels started to increase as the pattern for the hearts were not printing out and I switched the printer and computer off a few times to see if it would print. I tried to print from the copy that was on the scanner bed, but when switching the printer and computer back on, I thought lets see if I could print from Word and it did, then I thought let me see if…

  • Tinting on Fabric

My study partner Lynn and I have been working on Module 8 of the embroidery diploma course learning about Tinting on fabric. It’s easy once you know how, after a few Google searches I was able to find a few videos on how to use the different art media on fabric. The pieces I am sharing are the same design with dissimilar colour-ways and different tinting techniques, and two seperate hands. In July I had an accident which saw me sprain my left ankle and broken right wrist, and so I have been doing physio to get my right hand moving again.  On the left side of the photo I have…

  • Ivory Flower

I have been approached to be part of a auction on Facebook, so while recovering from my broken wrist I was thinking it is best to use one of the existing flowers that I normally sell at Greenwich market.  The ivory flower has wire work as a central theme, I was working on developing ideas with wire to incorporate into the fascinators, this small flower is the only one of its kind in the smaller flower range. You can wear this ivory flower as a lapel pin to secure your scarf or onto your jacket as a broach or as a hair flower on the side.

  • High Drama Casts On and Off

Sunday 8th August saw me back in the hospital, this time not at A&E, but Sacu, I waited to see Dr Burnham, he is a kind and gentle doctor who listened to me about the story of the accident and the stages of being given different casts. I went back to see him as the side of the new cast had become sharp once it was dried, (he gave me a back slab)and it was causing irritation and I was having slight pins and needles, thankfully it wasn’t what it was like as I was given this cast… It pinched my thumb, hand and wrist and I had pins and…

  • Happy Place

On Thursday 29th July I was chatting with Lynn, it was so good catching up, we are study partners for our embroidery diploma. A box of fabrics had just been delivered and she showed me each piece and I was in a happy place with her, I felt encouraged with my creativity while looking through the fabrics with her and knowing that when I am more healed I can start sewing again. Lynn shared the time when her right thumb was fractured and the knuckles were strapped up, she was able to hold the needle between her thumb and first finger and she was able to thread the eye of…

  • Accident in Scotland

Wed 14th July I was walking with my friend Carl along a pavement path in Carron Scotland in the Highlands. I stepped onto a piece of round circular bark and the next thing I knew I was on the floor. Carl wanted to lift me up and I was screaming at him don’t touch me. At first thought I had broken my left ankle and right wrist, but after getting to see the paramedics they confirmed I had sprained my left ankle and broken my right wrist. I was given gas and air to help with the pain while on the thirty five minute journey to Elgin hospital, it was…

  • Work in Progress

This is my work in progress for candle wicking, which is worked in colonial knots, they are a different type of knot that is worked within the figure of 8, when I first started working with them I really didn’t like them, I think it was due to the fact that I didn’t understand what I needed to do and it was painfully slow in working through the mechanics of where to position the thread around the needle.
